Odisha Government Press (OGP) came into existence in the year1936 with the aim to meet the printing and stationery needs of all Government Departments and Offices of the State. Consequent upon separation of Odisha from Bihar, the Press shifted to Cuttack and a tiny press started functioning with a staff strength of 30 with few old and used printing machineries at Buxi Bazar, Cuttack in a rented accomodation. Mr.V.S. Money, an Anglo Indian, was designated as Press Officer to man the Press. Then Mr. C.S. Batersby who was well-experienced in press management, joined in Odisha Government Press as Superintendent & Ex-Officio Principal of the School of Printing and Allied Trades. Skilled personnel passed-out from the School were absorbed in the Press in order to develop the technical skill level of the Press. During his tenure, 84 acres of land was allotted at Madhupatna, Khapuria, Cuttack by the erstwhile Commerce Department of Government of odisha for construction of Press Building of its own. In the year, 1971, the Odisha Government Press was shifted from Buxi Bazar, Cuttack to its own land at Madhupatna, Cuttack. Originally the head of Government Press was designated as Superintendent. Mr.U.N. Mishra, Superintendent was instrumental in giving the press the shape of a large printing industrial establishment. In the year,1980, Odisha Government Press was declared as the Heads of Department with the Director, Printing, Stationery and Publication, Odisha as the head.
