HMV DTI, Chhatia was established at Bidyadharpur, Chhatia, Jajpur in the year 2013 under PPP mode with an objective to impart quality driving training to LMV drivers in the Heavy Motor Vehicle segment and to impart quality refresher training to existing drivers of the State in improving employability as well as road safety. It is situated on an area of 40 acres, adjacent to the National Highway No.5 with 31,000 sq. ft of floor area for the Institute & hostel along with a 4.7 kms of state of the art driving training track. It started operation in April 2013 and its operation & management are being carried out by M/s Ashok Leyland Ltd. through a society namely “Society for Govt. of Odisha-Ashok Leyland HMV Drivers Training Institute”, registered under the Societies Registration Act,1860.

Training Schemes

It is imparting following three types of training-

• One month HMV Driving Training Programme (Transport Deptt. funded and OSEM funded)
• 2-days refresher courses on fuel saving & accident prevention
•  3-days refresher course on Transportation of Hazardous Goods

One month HMV Driving Training Programme is for LMV drivers having one year old LMV Driving License. The other eligibility criteria of trainees are:

Height: 5ft 4 inches or above, Educational Qualification: 8^th pass or above, Age: 20 to 40 years. It is a fully residential course for which the trainee has nothing to pay towards training, lodging & boarding and DL fees. In addition to this, the trainee on successful completion of training & obtaining HMV DL, is entitled to get wage loss compensation of Rs.3000/-each also.

Capacity:

• 1200 HMV Drivers per year
• 12000 HMV Drivers (Refresher Training) per year

Organisation Structure:  

The Institute is headed by Principal (An employee of M/s Ashok Leyland Ltd.) with one Administrative Officer, one Hostel Warden, one Accountant and eight nos. of Trainers. There are 4 Trucks & one Bus deployed at the institute for imparting practical training.
